DG Glossary: Copyright Infringement
Knowing and understanding industry terminology is vital to negotiating and working in the theatre. From time to time, we will be highlighting terminology that is important for all dramatists to understand.
Copyright is the bundle of five exclusive rights associated with an original work of authorship fixed in a tangible medium. These rights include reproduction of the work, creation of derivative works (e.g. adaptations), distribution of copies of the work, public performances of the work, and public displays of the work.
Copyright infringement occurs when someone violates any of the above stated rights by using copyrighted material without permission of the copyright owner.
