When artists have the gift to make us feel as alive as Sondheim’s work makes us feel, the ache is that much more acute when they are no longer with us. So, I was deeply grateful when Joey Stocks and Amanda Green asked me to guest edit this Sondheim issue of The Dramatist—grateful to commemorate Steve’s legacy and spend the better part of a year scratching at grief by digging deeper into his life and work.
