Calling all theatre educators! We're thrilled to announce the launch of our new  DG publication: Can I Do That - A Helpful Guide to Performing Plays and Musicals in a Classroom or an Educational Environment!

Playwrights, composers, lyricists, and librettists recognize the importance of your work as an educator; we want to support you as you inform, guide, and cultivate the next generation of theatremakers. That's why we've created this new guide, specifically designed to answer your questions and to make your job easier.

Many theatre educators have been wondering about the nuances of copyright laws and when royalties are owed to writers in the context of classroom performances.  In our guide, you’ll find the information you need to confidently introduce your students to new theatrical works, while teaching them the importance of respecting the author's words and music. Learn to distinguish between when you need permission to print, copy, or read a play/musical vs. when you can simply go ahead and teach it in the classroom, and why. Discover tips and suggestions on how to reach out to authors and/or their representation for licensing permission or to request changes to a script.

With your copyright questions answered, you'll be able to devote your time and energy towards bringing your passion for theatrical literature and performance to the next generation of theatremakers and theatregoers!

This publication is presented by the Dramatists Guild Education Committee. The committee seeks to help educators teach and present theatrical works, as well as to educate the public about the theatre writers who create these shows.
